의학 용어의 구조

  의학 용어는 기본적으로 다음과 같은 구조를 가진다.

 

 

root + combining vowel + suffix

 

 

root: 중심이 되는 의미

 

combining vowel: 단순 연결 모음. a, e, i, o, u가 해당하며 주로 o를 사용한다.

 

suffix: 접미사. root에 의미를 추가한다.

 

 

  예를 들면 다음과 같다. 

 

leukocyte(백혈구) -> leuk(하얀)/o/-cyte(세포)

  다만, suffix의 시작이 모음인 경우에는 combining vowel을 생략한다.

  마지막으로, 앞에 접두사(prefix)를 붙여 의미를 추가하는 경우도 존재한다.
